Living in this area has been awesome for traveling around to new and different cities! Jersey, New York, Philadelphia…and now, Washington D.C.! 😀
First let me point out that this Alicia Keys station I just added to Pandora is aweeesome! Bringing it back a bit for now 🙂 I am one to say that music was a lot better even just a few years ago.. anyways… DC!
I have to be fully honest here, I don’t care for history really. Fun facts are great and all but the full history of a building, person or anything is basically like taking NyQuil. “Goodnight, see you tomorrow”, I can’t handle all that, never could.
Photos and pretty places on the other hand, yes please! ❤ That’s what I love about historical places, the detail in everything. I used to want to be an architect so only makes sense for me to be attracted to the structure, materials and overall design more than the history hehe.
I mean come on! Do you see how gorgeous this is!? I could’ve stayed there all day and that was only the beginning of the day. Of course Breno wanted to move on to the next location while I was still taking pictures of the CHAIR! HA!
Being on our own here you’ll see us taking photos of each other or selfies without a selfie stick because we’re just not that cool. Then come along wonderful people that see and understand the struggle and offer to take a photo of us, thank you strangers. This is only the side but, again…do you see that place!? Favorite building in DC, the Smithsonian Castle. Can you tell I have a love for old things?
Sunday was such a beautiful day, ok yeah it was boiling and all but those clouds looked perfect. There was even a slight breeze, sometimes. Wear comfy shoes if you go, converse do not count as proper sneakers by the way. Eventually we made our way around the Mall to many Museums. Our broke newlywed selves highly appreciate that they were all free! 😀 Had to stop by the Air and Space Museum, Breno has been around airplanes practically since he was a baby. We tried finding places and objects from the Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian movie, ehh not much luck. Loved the movie, couldn’t find the space monkey
There were so many statues of Mercury I was beginning to feel sick…ha..haha..ha ._.
Anyyyways..I got in trouble in the Gustave Caillebotte: The Painters Eye exhibit, of course, because of my camera. They need to have those “no photos” signs larger in those specific rooms. At least we got a pamphlet because his “The Floor Scrapers” was my favorite. Maybe it’s because of the wood floors, my other favorites were landscapes and buildings lol.
I visit a tourist location and of course there’s always a main attraction under construction, maintenance or just inaccessible. (I have yet to see the 9/11 Memorial, I’ve been to NY three times.) Oh well, next time.
Overall, Washington DC was great! If you plan to visit, my number one tip for you is to make sure you check closing times of the main places you want to visit and prioritize. We missed out on the Freer Gallery of Art because it closed at 5:30pm (on Sunday) but of course we were only there one day.
That’s all for Breno and Karen adventures for this month. Off to New York City for an Angra concert next month (yes, he’s a metal head) 😀 and I ❤ NY.
