One of Breno’s happiest moments was when he got a notification that Angra would be in New York City while we still lived up here. It’s his absolute favorite band! As for me..I looove NYC! It was a win win for us both. When I measure distance here forget miles, I go by how many hours it takes to drive and compare it to driving around Florida. So for us here driving up to New York is like driving to Miami or Orlando, that’s nothing..that’s a normal weekend. So away we drove, for the last time…in probably a long time.
Since this was the last time we’d be there it was a goal to go to the locations we hadn’t been to before. Last time all subways going south were closed, no idea why and of course had no idea how to go around it without walking all the way. The 9/11 Memorial was our number one along with the Statue of Liberty. I got chills the closer we got to the memorial, all the names written around..it was crazy and also beautiful.
You haven’t been to NYC if you haven’t seen the statue of liberty…even if its from far away. 😉 Since we were only there for a few hours before the concert we basically skimmed every location. Yeah, that’s close as we got to the statue..and were completely ok with it. 😀
(He is so cute! ❤ He’s always my model, even when he doesn’t want to hehe..) Another goal of mine was to get some good graffiti wall photos, this wasn’t actually “graffiti” but it was great! It’s a wallpaper mural that they were finishing that same day right near the 9/11 memorial. Sadly didn’t find too many good ones after that believe it or not. Still, I was pretty satisfied with this one. 😀
Who goes to NYC and doesn’t go to the Brooklyn bridge….us lol. This is pretty much the best photo I got while on our way to Little Italy. Along with having no clue how to actually get ON THE BRIDGE, too tight of a schedule to bother trying to find out how and empty stomachs this is the best we got. Oh well..”I’ll be back” (Arnold voice*)
___As awesome as it would be to go to China, China Town is probably as close to it as I will get, but hey..never say never right? Side story here…we didn’t arrive to NY with that book bag Breno is wearing. As a photographer, going to visit a cool city without my gear is just not an option. Carrying it in my purse that Breno will not hold was not a great option either, so we bought a book bag in China Town and stuffed my purse in there 🙂 Best decision that day!
___Besides the tiring part, I love walking around the city, so much to see. We started in the south and made our way up north. Had a moment to rest in front of the Washington Square Arch, love it! It’s so beautiful and has so much detail..of course detail is what I’m drawn to. As we walked towards the arch a man yelled out at me “Welcome to the jungle” …sadly even though that’s one of my favorite Guns n Roses song, it took me a while to realize why he said that. Hehe.. oops.
We spent pretty much the whole downpour in the Toys R Us. No Shame, we loved it. Our kids will be spoiled with all the toys we secretly want for ourselves. 😀 As much as I wanted to go to Central park one last time, time was running out and we still don’t know how to travel through the subway perfectly. There was a change you had to make when going from Times Square to the west side of the park and we just weren’t willing to take the risk of getting lost and being late.
We got to the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill, felt like we rented the place out since we were the only ones in the dining area. Other than looking a mess and probably super stinky from walking around, we felt so fancy hahaha. Breno was so excited, he could hear the band practicing and was trying to guess what songs they were going to play. After we finished we went back out to the line that was pretty short since we were so early. Then…there he was, out on a smoke break, the lead singer, Fabio Lione. I thought that left photo was as close as we were going to get. Seeing as how the guy in front of us easily went and asked for a photo, we didn’t care to follow right after him and lose our place in line. If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have gone though lol.
The area was a decent size but not big at all, and we had FRONT ROW! Let me just say Breno’s happiness is my happiness ❤ I repeat, this is his all time favorite band, we had front row! If we were to ever go to one of the bigger concerts we’d probably be lucky to see them the size of a water bottle. I was so happy that we had such an awesome spot. I however, don’t know any of the lyrics, the songs may sound familiar but I was clueless so..entertained myself by taking photos the entire time 😀 It was the best.
So let me tell you what I’ve learned about Angra this past week. It’s a specific type of metal music called “power metal”..and yes Breno plays that on blast many times, it’s actually grown on me (I like the slow beginning of the songs). They don’t play in the U.S. so often because their audience is mainly in Brazil, Japan and basically anywhere not in the States, but they sing in english lol. Fabio Lione is the third lead singer they’ve had, and the first non Brazilian in the group. They’ve been around since the 80’s..lol who knew. It’s very “notes” based and melody based(?)…nevermind I have no idea, I’m lost with music talk.
The two guitar players have been there since the first round of Angra members. In this photo is Kiko Loureiro, who is now going to be playing with Megadeth. Anyone here listen to them? Well yeah, this is the band Angra that he’s coming from, fyi.. lol
In the end, it was a long, tiring, pretty awesome day. I ❤ NY but the best part of the day was seeing Breno happy. With Breno’s old job letting every contractor go last month we thought we were going to have to move before the concert, thankfully he has a new job and we got to go. NOW, we can peacefully move back to Florida whenever lol. For now that’s al for our travels, Nicaragua in December should be our next big one 🙂 REALLY CANT WAIT!
